The Becker girls lacrosse team improved to 6-3 on the year with an exciting, 12-11 win Tuesday evening in Delano.
Delano entered the game with an 8-2 record and quickly gained a 6-1 lead over the Bulldogs and by halftime held an 8-3 advantage.
At the start of the second half, Delano and Becker traded goals but then the Bulldogs got their game on and began an epic comeback that started at about the 20 minute mark.
After several flourishes, the Bulldogs finally tied the score at 10 apiece on a goal by McKenzie Opgenorth with just under three minutes to play.
The Tigers retook the lead with less than two minutes to play but Catie Eisenrich scored the tying tally with just 56 seconds left on the clock. On the ensuing draw, Katie Pursley gained control and fed Sydney Benda for the game-winning goal with 36 seconds left.
In the furious final half minute, the Bulldogs controlled the ball and secured the win.
Opgenorth led the Bulldogs with three goals and three assists. Eisenrich and Benda each had three goals. Pursley had two goals and Allie Zimmer had one.
Delano was led by Aspen Hanson with four goals and Alea Hinz with three.
“Our girls fought back with great resolve,” said Head Coach Travis Opgenorth.
