Bulldog volleyball showing heart in tough losses

The Becker Bulldog volleyball team may be coming up a bit short on the scoreboard, but Coach Patty Lindbom is proud of the determination her team has shown in some close losses.

“Our players are putting up a fight,” Lindbom said. “They have been pushing hard to stay strong across the net.”

Monday night, the Bulldogs dropped a close game to St. Cloud Tech, falling in five games to the Tigers.

Becker’s offense showed some signs of life, as several players contributed to the team’s hitting attack.

According to Lindbom, Evelyn Kreft “stayed hot” and led the team with 11 kills, hitting on .200 of her attempts and picked up five blocks for the Bulldogs.

Cami Ramola pitched in seven kills for the Bulldogs, while Alexis Goebel had four.

Defensively, Alexa Williams had 13 digs, followed by Macy Spear with 11 and Skylee Blomquist with nine. Piper Schmidt added three blocks for the Bulldogs.

Tuesday night, Becker traveled to Hutchinson to face one of the top teams in the state, the Tigers, who sport an overall record of 13-4.

Becker fell in straight sets, 16-25, 23-25 and 20-25, but showed improvement throughout the matches.

Last Thursday, Becker traveled to Cambridge-Isanti for a Mississippi 8 Conference matchup with the Bluejackets and came away with a hard fought, 3-1 loss.

The Bulldogs were soaring early, as they won a nail-biter in the opening set 26-24 before the Bluejacket’s veteran lineup took over and made things difficult down the stretch. Cambridge-Isanti picked up the wins in the next three sets, 25-12, 25-20 and 25-23 to seal the win.
