Bulldog volleyball celebrates seniors, looks to playoffs

Last week, the Becker Bulldog girls volleyball team hosted the Buffalo Bison in their final regular season match of the year and celebrated Senior Night, which honored the team’s six seniors and all of their contributions to the program.

“Senior night is a way to congratulate our six seniors - Alexa Williams, Cami Ramola, Alexis Goebel, Skylee Blomquist, Taylor Storlien and Ellie Buntrock,” said coach Patty Lindbom. “Throughout the season, our seniors showed leadership, grit, and a positive attitude.”

Becker fell in the match 3-1 to the Bison, but showed perseverance and determination against the Class AAAA opponent.

“It was our last home game, and we fought hard and took a set win against a strong Buffalo team,” Lindbom added.

Set scores for the match were 15-25, 16-25, 28-26 and 17-25.

The Bulldogs picked up 24 kills as a team, with Evelyn Kreft leading the way with eight. The Bulldogs were also formidable at the net, picking up eight blocks total, while they notched 23 total assists.

Other stat highlights included Maya Wenner with 17 assists and eight digs, Ramola with six kills and eight digs, Williams with eight digs and Lily Berger with three kills, two blocks and four digs.

Lindbom’s team continues to perform well at the service line, as they hit on 93.5% of their attempts and picked up five ace serves in the match.

With the loss, Becker is looking towards the Section Playoffs, which begin Oct. 28 with the top four seeds hosting quarterfinal matchups. The Bulldogs will likely start the playoffs on the road and would have to win three straight to qualify for the state tournament.  Seeding will be completed Mon., Oct. 25 via the QRF.

Becker will compete in Section 8 AAA with the likes of Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Little Falls, Rocori, Sauk Rapids, and St. Cloud’s Tech and Apollo.

The semifinals will also be hosted by the top seeds Nov. 2, while the finals will be at a neutral site Nov. 6.
