The Becker boys track team came in third at the Mississippi 8 Conference meet held last week.
“We had some great individual performances and ended up with 11 All Conference selections out of the 18 events,” Coach Paul Schmidt said, noting that the top 3 individuals and top relay team earn the honors. “Carter Reckelberg earned All-Conference honors in all 4 of his events.”
Reckelberg won the 100 with a time of 10:98, the 200 with a time of 22.59 and the long jump with a leap of 23’ 0.5”, while he also took second place in the triple jump with a leap of 44’ 6.5”.
Owen Angel finished with All-Conference honors in the 110 hurdles (14.87), the 300 hurdles (39.50 - which broke his school record he set a couple weeks ago), and the Pole Vault (14’ 9”).
“Owen also had a four way tie in the high jump at 6’ but an early miss dropped him to fourth place and Honorable Mention,” Schmidt said. “Another highlight of the meet was the Becker 4x800 team which has really come together this year.”
Evan Hubbard, Parker Spindler, Brandt Hemmelgarn, and Tanner Felton not only won the relay for All- Conference honors, they shattered the old school record by 10 seconds running in a time of 8:14.91.
Later in the meet, Tanner Felton added a second place finish in the 800 for All Conference with a time of 2:02.52 and Parker Spindler won the 3200 meters in a time of 10:06.42.
Evan Hubbard earned Honorable Mention for his fifth place finish as well in the 3200 with a time of 10:22.38. Freshman Isiah Boyer earned Honorable Mention in the 400 with a fourth place finish (53.40).
Girls
The girls team finished fifth at the M8 meet, taking on some excellent competition.
Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy noted that individuals placing 1-3 and relays placing first were named “All Conference”, while individuals placing 4-8 and relays placing 2-3 were named “All Conference Honorable Mention”.
The Becker girls had six All Conference athletes and 13 Honorable Mention selections.
“Our lone first place finish came in the first running event of the day with the 4x800 relay team of Katelyn Brower, Andie Changamire, Alea Briggs, and Lexi Rose,” Reimer-Kealy said. “Each girl ran very well and commanded the race from the very start and their time was 9:53.83.”
Kailey Thompson turned in another outstanding run in her 100 hurdles to place second.
“It was a very close race with Kailey out-sprinting a girl from Princeton by .01 at the very end,” Reimer-Kealy said. “Lauren Woelfel ran her season best time (17.32) to place sixth.”
Thompson also ran well in the 300 hurdles against some very talented competition, placing fourth with her PR time of 48.19.
Andie Changamire ran to a third place finish in the 400 (63.81) and Kaylyn Rickard was fifth (65.16), while Alea Briggs placed fourth in the 800 (2:26.99) and Katelyn Brower ran a PR time of 2:30.26 to place fifth.
Lexi Rose came in sixth in the 1600 with a time of 5:38.68, while Olivia Babler had a season best (5:53.68) for ninth.
Babler also ran the 3200 meters and earned a season best of 12:57.95 for seventh place, while Allen was seventh in the 100 (13.09).
In the relays, the 4x100 team of Josie Reckelberg, Kylee Morton, Raelee Lyon, and Salayna Allen placed third in 51.90.
The 4x200 team of Allen, Morton, Thompson, and Reckelberg placed third with a season best time of 1:48.07, and the 4x400 team of Changamire, Brower, Briggs, and Rose placed third in a time of 4:16.97.
In the field events, Ella Tschida had an outstanding day earning PR marks for both of her events, placing second in the shot put with a mark of 34’ 2.5”and third with her discus (101’ 0). Three of the Bulldogs’ other throwers also earned PR marks: Reese Hausmann in the shot, and Rylea Hausmann and Laila Cook in the discus.
Bella Kuschel placed eighth in the HJ with a height of 4’8, while Morton was eighth in the long jump (15’ 5.75). Sophia Otto placed ninth in the pole vault (PR 8’6).
Both teams had section prelims and finals this week, with the goal being to qualify some athletes for the state meet in STMA on June 7-8.
