Despite posting a series of impressive times, the Becker swimming and diving team dropped its first match of the season last Thursday to Chisago Lakes.
“It was a tough meet with a lot of very close races,” said coach Tina Tamm. “We got touched out multiple times at this meet and those finishes were less than a half a second difference between first and second place.”
Because the schedule for the post season is still unclear, the team has been focusing on meeting the section cut times. These are the times athletes must meet to be eligible to swim at the section event in a usual season. So far, 13 swimmers in 18 events have achieved this result, including: Meghan Swanson, Laila Cook, Grace Wynia, Lucy Pink, Avary Maunu, Tia Schaap, Sarah Woelfel, Lauren Woelfel, Kyla Henkemeyer, Delaney Varney, Morgan Schroeder, Arleigh Pudlick and Grace Gifford.
Tamm has been very pleased with how hard her swimmers and divers have been working during this shortened season.
“After this week, we are halfway through this crazy season and we are having really good success,” said Tamm. “We hope to finish strong and put up some more wins.”
