The Becker Bulldog swimming and diving team finished up its regular season in the past week with a win over Cambridge-Isanti and a loss to the Monticello Magic.
With the split, Becker finished the dual meet portion of the season with a record of 7-3 and some major momentum heading into the playoff portion of the schedule.
Bluejackets
In last week Thursday’s win over Cambridge-Isanti, Becker took first in every event to run away with the impressive victory.
“The girls swam very well tonight,” coach Tina Tamm said after the meet. “Taking first place in every event showed a great overall team effort.”
The Bulldogs were impressive in the relay events, as Laila Cook, Grace Wynia, Delaney Varney and Avary Maunu won the 200 Medley, while Tia Schaap, Sarah Woelfel, Grace Wynia and Meghan Swanson placed first in the 200 freestyle relay.
In the 400 freestyle relay, it was Maunu, Schaap, Varney and Cook who brought home the victory for the Bulldogs.
Varney also picked up a pair of wins in individual events (200 freestyle and 100 butterfly), as did Meghan Swanson (500 freestyle and 50 freestyle).
Cook became the third Bulldog with a pair of individual wins, as she finished first in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 backstroke.
Schapp finished first in the 100 freestyle, while Wynia topped the pack in the 100 breaststroke for the Bulldogs, who also picked up the win in diving behind a strong performance from Sarah Woelfel.
Magic
In Tuesday’s loss to Monticello in the regular season finale, the Bulldogs took the opportunity to let the girls try some new events. It serves as a chance for the swimmers to experiment with something new they would like to try and gain some valuable experience.
“In going to Monticello, we know it’s going to be tough to win so this is the one meet a year when the girls swim ‘off’ events and they get a break from their usual events,” Tamm said. “It gives them a chance to try a different event and see how they do.”
“We ended the regular season with a record of 7-3 and the girls are ready to head into the postseason,” Tamm said.
Becker was scheduled to host the True Team meet on Friday and Saturday (Oct 15 & 16), while the following weeks will be spent getting the team ready for Sections.
“Next week we will start training for the Section meet that will be held here in Becker from November 11 to the 13th,” Tamm said.
