Bulldog netters split two games

The Becker Bulldogs volleyball team showed some very good offense for most of their past two contests until the well finally went dry at the end of their Tuesday night match in Cambridge.

Last Thursday, Becker knocked off the Princeton Tigers 3-2 in a match that went down to the wire.  Set scores were 25-15, 23-25, 25-9, 23-25 and 15-11.

The Bulldogs dominated in several stat categories, including notching 54 assists to the Tigers’ 36.  Much of that credit went to team setter Ellie Wenner, who scored 48 of the team’s sets.

Becker also led in the ace serve category, 16-10, as Kyanna Marx led the team with seven.

In the hitting category, Kady Lindbom again paced Becker with 26 kills, while teammate Evelyn Kreft was efficient en route to hitting 12 kills on her 16 attempts.

‘Evelyn had a huge night for us,” said coach Greg Lynch.  “She had some big kills in the middle.”

Defensively, Emilie Baumgartner led the team with 17 digs, while Wenner and Marx each chipped in 11.

Tuesday night, Becker jumped out to an early lead over the Bluejackets, leading 2-1 after three sets before coming out on the short end of a 3-2 score.

Cambridge took the first set 25-23, but Becker battled back to pick up a 27-25 win in the second.  The third set was all Becker, 25-14, before Cambridge-Isanti secured the win down the stretch 25-15 and 15-9.

“At the end, unfortunately it wasn’t a strong showing for us,” said coach Greg Lynch.

Ellie Wenner had a nice all around match, serving up five aces among her 100 percent serve performance, as well as picking up 9 defensive digs.

Emilie Baumgartner had 18 digs, while Kady Lindbom had 12.

Evelyn Kreft led the team with 4 blocks.

Lindbom (17) and Kreft (10) led the Bulldogs in the kill category.

Becker was scheduled to host CHisago Lakes on Thursday night.  Complete details will be available in next week’s Patriot.
