Last Thursday, the seventh seed Becker Bulldog volleyball team traveled to Sauk Rapids-Rice to take on the second seed Storm and fell in straight sets, 13-25, 21-25 and 18-25.
“We had strong serving and started to gain momentum into the third set,” said coach Patty Lindbom. “We were actually ahead 13-10, but [the Storm] heated up with their hitting and took the third set.”
Despite the loss, Lindbom praised the hard work of her team and felt that their attitude and work ethic were exemplary throughout the contest.
“We scrambled and hustled throughout the match,” Lindbom added.
In the stats department, Maya Wenner had five digs, one block and one kill, while Alexa Williams had four digs, one block and two kills.
Cami Ramola had a strong showing with four digs, eight kills and one ace serve, and Evelyn Kreft was strong across the net with six blocks, five kills and one ace serve.
Alexis Goebel was a big factor in the front row with four blocks and four kills.
Other contributors included: Piper Schmidt (three blocks, four kills), Lily Berger (six digs, two ace serves),
Kate Mehelich and Lily Dewall (four digs each), Skylee Blomquist (three digs), Kiley Fobbe (two digs).
Looking back on the season, Lindbom feels that the team will be losing some top performers in this year’s seniors, but the future also looks bright.
“Our team consistently improved our stats from week to week,” Lindbom said. “The team will be losing strong leadership from the senior group but there are solid athletes moving up the ranks for next year.”
