It was the type of start the Becker wrestling team was looking for last Thursday, as they hosted their season opening matches with a pair of wins, defeating St. Francis 43-27 before downing Scott West, 47-15.
“I thought our team competed well and was able to get the first match nerves out of their system,” said Head Coach Travis Holt. “We will continue to have an offensive approach to competition and look forward to wrestling this week.”
In the win over the Saints, Bennett Kujawa opened up the match with a 6-2 decision in the 106 pound match, while St. Francis won the next two matches to take a 9-3 lead. Landen Kujawa then scored a second period fall for the Bulldogs to tie up the score 9-9 after the 126 pound match. After losses at 132 and 138, Becker bounced back with an Ethan Duncombe major decision at 145 pounds and a first period fall by Ethan Anderson (152) and Becker had its first lead, 19-18. From there, it was a convincing effort by the Bulldogs, as they picked up a fall at 160 from Mason Doucette and a pair of forfeits (Dylan Weber at 195 and Dylan Kolby at 220) to take a commanding 37-27 lead. Bryce Kuschel picked up a first period fall at 285 to give Becker the conference win.

In the second match of the night, Becker ran away with the match by winning 10 of the 14 individual matches. Kujawa again scored the win, a fall, at 106, followed by a Kaden Nicolas first period fall at 120. Drew May picked up a decision at 132, followed by Ryan Boecker’s major decision win at 138.
Anderson (152) and Doucette (160) picked up wins for Becker, followed by Adam Jurek’s major decision at 170. Tyson Ricker then picked up his first win of the season at 182, followed by victories from Kolby (220) and Kuschel (285).
Becker was scheduled to wrestle Thursday night in Princeton, where they were to take on the host Tigers and the Milaca Wolves in a triangular.
