Bulldog gymnasts open season with win

The Becker Bulldog gymnastics team opened its season last week in St. Francis and came away with a 137.35 to 132.9 victory over the Saints.

“Riley Norberg and Emma Hennessey both had strong meets to open up the season and lead the Bulldogs to victory,” Coach Kayla Kalinowski said. “Riley won the all-around with a 35.125 and vault with 9.4, as well as being the runner-up finisher on bars. Emma had runner-up finishes in the all-around, vault and bars.”

Lauren Woelfel was the highest finishing Becker gymnast on beam with a fourth place, scoring an 8.55.

Event specific finishes for the Bulldogs included the following: 

Vault – Norberg 9.4, Hennessey 8.95, Sarah Woelfel 8.9, Tessa Maruska 8.7, Lauren Woelfel 8.45.

Bars –  Norberg 8.2, Hennessey 8.2, Lauren Woelfel 8.175, Sarah Woelfel , 7.85, Justine Vilmo 7.15.

Beam – Lauren Woelfel 8.55, Norberg 8.525, Hennessey 8.3, Chloe Spear 8.175, Sarah Woelfel 8.05.

Floor – Norberg 9.0, Spear 8.975, Lauren Woelfel 8.8, Hennessey 8.65, Bella Kuschel 8.325.

All-around – Norberg 35.125, Hennessey 34.1, Lauren Woelfel 33.975.

“The gymnasts are excited to continue to put some more difficulty into their routines in the coming weeks,” Kalinowski said. “We hope to keep building on this momentum moving forward in the season.”

The next action for the team was scheduled for Thursday night in Cambridge, while Saturday (today) the team was to participate in an invitational in Annandale in the team’s last action before winter break.
