Last Tuesday, the Becker girls basketball team finished the 2021 portion of its Mississippi 8 Conference schedule by overwhelming the Monticello Magic, 91-47.
Becker raced to a 41-26 first half lead in part by hitting seven three-point baskets and also holding a huge advantage on the glass. Becker finished the game with 36 rebounds, while the Magic had just 16.
Lexi Rose was one of the offensive stars of the game, as she poured in 31 total points on the night, including 19 in the second half. She also led the team with five steals. Head Coach Dan Baird had commented recently on Rose’s development as a player and its importance for the team, and against the Magic she was able to put together all facets of her game in the dominating performance.
Adeline Kent continued her stellar play for the Bulldogs, chipping in 18 points on a very efficient 8-for-12 shooting effort, while also picking up three assists.
Dani Nuest also had a nice game with 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while Ayla Brown continued her excellent defense and added 12 points. Maren Westin had 11 points for the Bulldogs, who had five scorers in double figures. Other scorers included Hannah Dierkes (two), Alexa Voller (three) and Liz Mackedanz (one point and nine rebounds).
An early review of the stats for the first seven games of the season shows the Bulldogs averaging 78 points per game, while holding its opponents to an average of 47. Becker is also shooting 49% from the field, including a scorching 40% from the three-point line. As a team, the Bulldogs are also picking up an amazing 16 steals per game.
Becker’s schedule this week includes a pair of games against the top competition in the state, regardless of class.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs were set to open play in the Breakdown Granite City Classic by taking on Class AAAA power Minnetonka, while on Thursday they faced Providence Academy, one of the top private school teams in the state.
Becker will get back to regular season action Tuesday evening, as the Willmar Cardinals will come to town for an important Section matchup.
