Bulldog girls golfers repeat as M8 Champs

For the second year in a row, the Becker Bulldog girls golf team captured the Mississippi 8 Conference title in decisive fashion.

Last Friday, the girls participated in the final conference match of the season at Purple Hawk Golf Course in Cambridge and the Bulldogs left no doubt as to who was the best team in the conference, firing a round of 362, which was 24 strokes better than the second place Chisago Lakes Wildcats.

“The Lady Bulldogs are Conference Champs for the second year in a row!” exclaimed coach Anna Babler after the meet. “We finally had a perfect day to golf which was well deserved after the season we have had.”

Becker was paced by Layla Mathews, who was the meet medalist with an incredible round of 84 to lead the pack, two strokes ahead of Chisago’s Emily Erickson.

Emma Benson placed fifth overall at the meet, shooting an 89, followed by teammate Alexa VOller’s seventh place finish with 92 strokes. Avery Johnson was next for the Bulldogs with a round score of 97, followed by Hannah Hyttsten (105) and Nora Pilarski (107).

Babler was also proud to announce that the Bulldogs had four golfers named to the All-Mississippi 8 Conference team: Voller, Mathews, Benson and Johnson.

The girls next competed in the Sectional golf meet, held this week at the Rich Springs Golf Course in Cold Spring.
