Bulldog girls fall to T-G

Another excellent season for the Becker girls basketball team came to an end Saturday, as the team lost to Totino-Grace in the section semifinals, 53-38.  It was the first game between the two teams since the 2022 state championship game, also won by Totino.

“Their zone defense gave us problems, so they deserve a ton of credit, and we didn’t shoot well,” Coach Dan Baird said.  “Totino also out-rebounded us 38-30 and seemed to get most of the 50-50 balls.”

As she has done all season, Lexi Rose led the Bulldogs, notching a double-double in her final game in a Becker uniform, scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

For her career, Rose finished with 1,128 points, leaving her in eighth place in Becker girls basketball scoring history.

“We graduate a great group of seniors that had amazing character and were great to coach and work with,” Baird said.  “We just fell a little short on this night.”

The team finished the season with an overall record of 19-9 and a 15-1 M8 Conference record, good enough for yet another conference title.

Becker scoring: Adele Changamire two, Paige Hennen two, Lauren Croal four, Josie Reckelberg six, Lexi Rose 21, Avery Johnson two, Tess Brown one.

Quarterfinals

Becker had advanced to the semifinals with an opening round victory over St. Francis, the team that had ended the Bulldogs’ amazing 82 game conference winning streak earlier in the season.  In the re-match, Becker had no problems, winning 72-38.

“Our team shot, defended, and rebounded very well,” Baird said.  “Our half court defense was stifling and  we hit 14 three pointers as a team, connecting on forty-one percent.”

Rose was unstoppable with 34 points, connecting on seven-of-15 from the three pt. line.

“She also had six rebounds, five assists, and three steals,” Baird said.  “Lexi was clutch as St. Francis came out with a lot of fire to start the game, but they didn’t have an answer for Lexi!”

“Josie Reckelberg had a nice performance with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and amazing defense as always,” Baird added.  “Adele Changamire continues to rebound extremely well for us, pulling down 10 boards”

Becker scoring: Adele Changamire nine, Reckelberg 13, Rose 34, Andie Changamire nine, Avery Johnson five, Tess Brown two.
