A huge crowd of family, friends and fans packed into the Becker High School commons area last week and found itself attending more than the annual Becker Bulldog football banquet and year-end tribute to the team's seniors. This year they were celebrating the team’s state championship.
Head Coach Dwight Lundeen, along with assistants Hokan Bengtson, Troy Robinson, Tyler Niedfeldt, Shane Potter, Brent Scheideman, Jeff Zimmer, Dan Schlicht, Brady Cobb, Todd Brown, Mike Lundeen, Chris Meidt, Tony Vesledahl, Gregg Veldman and Todd Smith, handed out awards, reflected on the successful season and named captains for the 2015 squad.
The 2014 fan of the year award went to Shelly Lumley and the distinguished service award went to Scott and Karen Pauly.
The team MVP was QB Michael Veldman, who also was named all-conference and league MVP and was a Minnesota Mr. Football finalist and named to the Minnesota Vikings All State team.
Dawson Brown was bestowed with the monster man award by the coaches and was also all-conference, AP all-state and special teams player of the year for the Dogs.
Connor Burlet was named most dedicated and Chris Weberg and Adam Ewald shared the lineman of the year award, named by the team’s coaches.
Other all-conference players were, Ewald, Beau Pauly, Milan Kent, Dillon Radunz, Eric Blomgren, CJ Schwintek, Matt Conzemius and Weberg.
Honorable mention all-conference were Alex Meidt, Blake Barthel, Nathan Voigt, Daltin Schmitz, Jake Fobbe, Jaylin Hildebrandt, Adam Rasmussen, Tyler Thorson, Joe Lyons, Trevor Goodrich, Casey Vesledahl and Andrew Stanger.
Blomgren was also AP all-state, named to the KARE 11 all-metro team and named wide receiver of the year by the Bulldogs.
Schwintek was named running back of the year and Kent defensive lineman of the year by the team’s coaches.
Troy Robinson was named assistant coach of the year and Dwight Lundeen coach of the year.
The 2015 captains are Pauly, Kent, Stanger, Radunz and Meidt.
