Bulldog boys soccer drops a pair

The Becker boys soccer team dropped a pair of contests in the past week by identical scores of 5-0.

Last Thursday the Princeton Tigers came to town and pulled ahead 2-0 by halftime as Becker couldn’t find the net with their shots.

“We had a couple good chances,” said coach Nick Crowley.  “We played pretty well in the first half and then lost our legs in the second.”

Tuesday night, the team hosted North Branch and despite switching their offensive attack in the first half, Becker again had trouble getting shots in the net.

“This formation switch worked for a bit, we looked pretty dangerous in the first half,” said Crowley.   “We created a few good chances, but one mistake in the first half, where they countered and caught our defense on the wrong foot, resulted in their only goal that half.”

As the second half started, Becker was on the short end of a close call by the game official and the Vikings capitalized for a goal.  From there, the Bulldogs again grew tired and couldn’t keep pace the rest of the way.

Crowley credited Micah Boyer with having a nice game for the Bulldogs.

“Our best effort came from a freekick by Micah at about 25 yards out and the keeper just got a hand to it to keep it out,” aid Crowley.   “Our seniors played very well, they wanted a different result, they wanted that first win, but it just didn’t happen.”

A lack of numbers continues to haunt the team as many  players are helping to fill out the JV roster by playing in that game and then running out of gas by the time the varsity game ends.

The team was scheduled to host a Friday night game versus St. Francis.  Look for results in next week’s Patriot.
