Bulldog baseball downs Tigers

The Becker Bulldog baseball team had a lot to celebrate last Friday as they held on to defeat the Princeton Tigers 5-4, assuring the team at least a share of the Mississippi 8 Conference title.

Becker won their last conference title all the way back in 1991, when the Bulldogs finished atop the Central Minnesota Conference.

“We are so proud of what this team has accomplished, as this is something Becker baseball has been waiting for for a long time,” Coach Brett Knudsen said after the game.  “This team has been special.”

It was the second game within a week against the Tigers, who are ranked just below Becker in the MN State Class AAA rankings.

Gerad Hanle picked up the win, going five innings and striking out eight batters while scattering seven hits. Kellan Graning then worked the final two innings to pick up the save, striking out four batters and yielding no hits.

“It’s not often you play the same team twice in a week, and on top of that to have both games mean so much,” Knudsen said.  “It was a fun week.”

Wolves

Last Thursday, Becker 10-runned the Milaca Wolves, 14-4 in five innings.  Ethan Guck picked up the win on the mound, going three innings while McCalla and Isaac Guck each worked an inning as well.  Graning was three-for-three in the game and Isaac Guck had a pair of RBI.

Rockets

Monday, Becker lost to the Rockford Rockets, 3-2 in a non-conference game.  Groskreutz was two-for-four to lead the offense, while Ethan Guck started on the mound for a pair of innings before yielding to Sawyer Anderson, who went the final five, giving up just a single earned run (three total).
