Bulldog Ballplayers Go 2 2

The Becker baseball team took a doubleheader against Milaca last Thursday, then lost to Cambridge-Isanti Tuesday in a one-run game.

Becker 7, Milaca 4 (Game one)
Patience combined with timely hitting propelled the Bulldogs to a win in game one of the Thursday double header with the Milaca Wolves.

Becker drew an astronomical 14 walks.

Andrew Berglund scored three runs,  Logan Boyer added three RBI's and Zack Halvorson and Weston Schug reached base each of their four at-bats.

Matt Moe and Matt Krenz combined for the win off the mound.

“We played great defense and took advantage of shaky pitching,” said Head Coach Tyler Niedfeldt.  “I was proud of our plate discipline.”

Becker 6, Milaca 1 (Game two)
Becker hit the ball very well in game two of the doubleheader, which was ended after six innings due to darkness.

Moe led the charge, going 2-for-3 with two RBI's.

Schug got the win, pitching all six innings, scattering three hits, striking out four and walking none.

“We hit the ball very well and ran the bases to perfection,” said Niedfeldt.  “We need to continue to keep our energy high in the dugout and support each other as we move forward.”
Niedfeldt says his team has one common goal moving forward.

“That is to finish the year at or above .500,” he said. “We need everyone on board to be able to reach that goal.”

C-I 4, Becker 3
Tuesday, the Bulldogs lost the game due to costly errors and mental mistakes that led to all four for Cambridge-Isanti.

Becker was unable to do the small things correctly to pull out a win in a game that felt like Becker had in control.

Schug was fantastic and his hitting kept the Bulldogs in the game. Schug went 3-for-3 with three singles and knocked in all three runs.

The pitching was outstanding with Moe starting the game and he went 5 -2/3 innings with three strikeouts and two walks. Schug took the loss, striking out one and walking zero in relief.
