Boys Lacrosse Kicks Off Season Victorious

The Bulldogs boys lacrosse team opened their season with a home victory against the Monticello Magic, 15-6.

The team regrouped after their season last year and applied some changes with the start of the season this year April 1, enhancing the offensive set by adding audible calls that allow the ball carrier to adjust the play based on what they’re seeing from the opposing defense.

The Bulldogs also have 10 returning seniors, including Defensive Captain Kaj Fritsch.

“Kaj has been and continues to be the defensive leader we need to maintain a solid defense,” said returning Head Coach Paul VanVoorhis. “Yes, we made some changes in the off season, but Fritsch, senior Carter Hansen, junior Parker Seely, junior Luke Mehelich and senior goalie AJ Buntrock work extremely well together. They will be tough to run through this season.”

Leading the scoring against the Magic were Senior Captain Jacob Berning with five goals, sophomore Jacob Eich with three goals, sophomore Calvin Fritsch, junior Gabe Lindorn and senior Corbin Kollar with two goals each, and Senior Captain Justin Reichle with one goal.

“This Bulldog team is a special group of young men,” said VanVoorhis. “Several of the athletes have been playing together for eight years and our expectations this year are very high.”

Monday the Bulldogs travel to Buffalo for a 7 p.m. match and are home again Thursday to play against Rogers.
