The Becker Bulldogs boys golf team had another busy week, competing at Southbrook in Annandale for the Daryl Gunnarson Invite Monday and again Thursday at the St. Cloud Country Club.
Monday, the Bulldogs were up against Annandale, Big Lake, Buffalo, Dassel-Cokato, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winstead, Kimball-Eden Valley-Watkins, Litchfield, Monticello, Mound-Westonka and Pierz.
The team struggled throughout the meet, coming in 12th with 387. None of the Bulldogs were able to break 90.
Buffalo won the meet with a team score of 310, Dassel-Cokato came in second with 319, and Mound-Westonka rounded out the top three with a score of 330.
Senior Austin Seavert led the team with a low score of 90. Sophomore Tucker Rhodes came in next with a 95, followed closely by sophomore Ethan Toboko with 96. Senior Gavin Murphy, junior Jimmy Braun and sophomore Brock Ramola each ended the meet with scores of 106.
“The last couple of meets have been tough to watch as I know the kids can put up lower numbers than what they have been,” said Coach Dan Olson. “Hopefully we can right the ship before conference play resumes next Wednesday.”
Teeing off at 1:30 p.m., the Bulldogs competed at the St. Cloud Country Club (SCCC) Thursday against Alexandria, Benilde St. Margaret, Blue Earth Area, Brainerd, Buffalo, Cambridge/Isanti, Eagan, Elk River, Little Falls, Marshall, Rogers, St. Cloud Tech, Sartell, Sauk Rapids/Rice/Apollo and Willmar. St. Cloud Cathedral was a no-show.
The team improved dramatically from Monday, coming in 13th with a team score of 348. Alexandria came out on top at 303, followed closely by Buffalo with a team score of 308 and Rogers with 313.
Seavert had the team’s low score at 80. Zach Stanz was close behind with 83, and Gavin Murphy finished with 91. Ethan Tobako ended the meet with a score of 94, Tucker Rhodes with a 95, and Brock Ramola with 118.
“It was windy and cool at SCCC, but that seems to be par for the season,” said Olson. “The team played well for stretches, but had a few holes that hurt their rounds. This has been a roller coaster season and I’m hopeful the team is trending in the right direction.”
The Bulldogs have a few days of practice before they compete in six meets over a seven day span, starting next Wednesday where they’ll be at Zimmerman, Thursday at Little Falls, Friday and Saturday at Detroit Lakes, Monday at Cathedral and Tuesday at Milaca. The grueling stretch completes with the Brainerd Invite Thursday.
