Boys golfers host invite

The Becker boys golf team hosted an invitational last week at Pebble Creek, as 15 teams descended on the course.

Head Coach Dan Olson reported cold and windy conditions for the teams, with Thomas May being the top Bulldog finisher.  May finished in seventh place overall, while the team finished ninth among the field.

Waconia led the way by firing a team score of 314, followed by Detroit Lakes at 320 strokes.

Becker’s total of 347 was three strokes better than Big Lake, who finished with 350.

Evan Villagomez of Heritage Christian Academy picked up meet medalist honors with a score of 74 on the par-72 course, while May fired a 78 for the Bulldogs.

Monday, the Bulldogs traveled to Monticello for the first M8 meet of the year at the Country Club.  Becker finished fourth with a 327, while Monticello and Chisago Lakes tied for first with scores of 310.

Carson Schwarzkopf was the low round for the Bulldogs, shooting a 78, followed by Brayden Graning (82), Tucker Tatge (82) and Carter Tatge (85).

“The sun was out, but it was windy again,” said Olson.  “The greens were firm and rolling faster than they were last week.  The team showed signs of improvement and shaved 14 shots off of their team score from the Monticello Invite last week.”
