BMS holds Olympics celebration

Becker Middle School held its traditional Olympics celebration last week, with advisory classrooms from each grade level competing against each other for individual and group titles.

Each advisory in grades six, seven, and eight chose a country to represent and then students competed in a variety of activities for the top three places.  Medals were awarded for the gold, silver and bronze winners in each event.

The event started with the symbolic parade march around the track, followed by the opening ceremony complete with the Olympic creed.

From there, students participated in running events including the 50 yard dash, 100 yard dash, 800 meter run and the 4x800 relay event.

Field events were next and included:  the softball throw, soccer punt, long jump, shot put, football kick, and frisbee throw.

Once the events were finished, the medal ceremonies took place, with the top three finishers earning medals and getting their picture taken on the podium before the winning countries were honored.

Victorious countries for this year’s Olympics included: Norway (Mr. Bengtson’s sixth grade advisory and Ms. Wentland’s seventh grade advisory), and the Bahamas (Ms. Fisher’s eighth grade advisory).
