BL soccer season ends in playoffs

The Big Lake boys and girls soccer teams both ended their seasons with losses in the Section 6AA playoffs last week.

The boys lost a close game to Princeton, 2-1 last Tuesday on the road. The only goal for the Hornets came from Kofi Gyamerah with an assist by Landon Priest in the first half. The Tigers, who were undefeated in the conference, had a goal in the first half and won the game with a second-half goal.

Tyler Huver had 12 saves in net.

The Hornets finished the season 6-9-2. They had wins over Hutchinson (3-0), East Central Prairie (9-1), North Branch (4-2), Spectrum (5-1), St. Francis (2-1) and Chisago Lakes (2-0).

The girls won their first playoff game, 1-0 over Princeton last Monday. Eighth-grader Kynlie Fournier had an unassisted goal in the first half for the only score of the game.

The Hornets were eliminated a day later with a 6-0 defeat to Zimmerman. The Thunder was undefeated in the conference and were scheduled to play St. Francis in the section championship game Tuesday.

The Hornets finished the season with a record of 4-12-2. They had wins over Sauk Rapids-Rice (2-1), Albany (2-1) and Princeton (2-1) and (1-0).
