Big Lake softball sweeps Thunder

The Big Lake softball team went 2-2 last week, but finished strong as they swept Zimmerman in a double header on Tuesday.

The first game was dominated by Sydnie Loftus as she pitched all seven innings allowing just two hits and one run in a 7-1 victory. She also went 2-4 with a home run at the plate. However, she would be outdone offensively by Katlyn Baron who went 3-4 with a home run of her own and three runs scored.

Tessa Fjone stepped in the circle for game two and took over right where Loftus left off in a 4-1 win for the Hornets. Fjone allowed five hits, one run, and struck out eight. Baron stayed hot at the plate going 2-3 with two RBI. Also collecting hits were Fjone, Alyssa Windorski, Loftus, and Katelyn Chaffee. Chaffee provided the other two RBI for the team .

The Hornets could only muster two hits as they fell 5-0 to Chisago Lakes last Friday. Loftus doubled in the bottom of the fourth, but the team was unable to score her.

On Friday the offense was held in check again as Cambridge-Isanti defeated Big Lake 1-0. Loftus provided two out of the three hits for the team and pitched all six innings on the mound giving up six hits and striking out eight.

The team has three conference games coming up this week with a trip to St. Francis Thursday, a home matchup with Monticello on Friday, and at Princeton next Tuesday.
