Last week the Hornets split a pair of contests, beating Mound Westonka on Monday, and losing to Becker last Thursday.
Trailing 9-5 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Big Lake roared back with 10 runs in that half inning to take the lead and the game. Amazingly, the Hornets scored nine of those 10 runs with two outs in the inning.
Kamrynn Tschritter started things off with a leadoff walk before a sacrifice bunt moved her to second. Then Tessa Fjone singled her home to start off the scoring. After a ground out the team reeled off three consecutive hits to tie the game at nine all. From there Mound Westonka seemed to be rattled and issued three free passes and made two errors before an Alyssa Windorski double scored the final three runs.
Fjone finished two-for-three with three RBI, Windorski was two-for-five with four RBI and two doubles, Sydnie Loftus was two-for-four with two doubles and an RBI, and Katlyn Baron was three-for-four with two RBI.
Becker 12, Big Lake 7
The Hornets lost to their crosstown rival, Becker, last Thursday by a score of 12-7. Big Lake led 4-3 after the fourth inning before the Bulldogs exploded for nine runs in the top of the fifth and blew the game open.
Loftus pitched the first five innings for the Hornets striking out seven while allowing only two earned runs. Loftus also smashed a two-run homerun in the seventh and Baron drove in three runs on the day.
This week the team has three conference games. On Thursday the team will travel to Cambridge-Isanti, then Friday they will host Chisago Lakes, and next Tuesday they’ll head to Zimmerman.
