Big Lake Cheerleaders win bid for nationals

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by the Big Lake Cheerleading Team.)

The Big Lake Varsity Competition and Varsity Gameday teams competed at the 10,000 Lake Regional Competition on Saturday.

Teams from all over the state, and some teams from outside of the state attended to compete and attempt for a bid to Nationals. To obtain a bid, the teams must first participate in a qualified camp and earn squad credentialing. Second, teams must compete at a regional competition. At the regional competition, teams must hit a minimum cut score, and judges evaluate the placement and scores of the team in their division compared to other teams. This process is to ensure that the highest standards are maintained for teams that earn a bid.

Big Lake competed in the Small Varsity Co-ed Nontumble and Small Varsity Gameday divisions.

In Small Varsity Co-ed Nontumble, Big Lake earned a second place and a bid to Nationals

In Small Varsity Gameday, Big Lake earned a fourth place (out of nine teams) and a bid to Nationals.

Both divisions were extremely tough, as Big Lake competed against several teams that have ranked nationally in the past.

The Varsity Teams will now begin preparing and fundraising for Nationals that will take place in February, 2022. Big Lake Cheerleading will also be hosting their own competition today (Saturday, 11/6) at Big Lake High School. Doors open at 9 a.m., and over 20 performances are expected from teams all over the state.
