Big Lake boys soccer showing promise so far

The Big Lake boys soccer team began the 2024 season on a high note.

After falling in their first game, the Hornets have shown they are a team to contend with.

Will Priest and Landon Priest both scored first half goals in a 5-2 loss to Legacy Christian Academy in the season opener.

The Hornets came back with a strong 3-0 win over Hutchinson in their second game. Will Priest had two goals and Tamren Acosta scored one.

In net, Caleb Olson had nine saves and Tyler Huver turned away two shots to preserve the shutout.

Big Lake trounced East Central Prairie, 9-1 in their next contest at home. The Hornets controlled the game early, scoring five goals in the first half.

Will Priest and Tyler Huver both had three goals. Tamren Acosta had two goals and two assists. Ryler Peterson scored a goal and had an assist.

Goalkeeper Caleb Olson allowed one goal in the second half.

Big Lake and Zimmerman played to a 0-0 tie in their next game.

Last Thursday the Hornets played well but couldn’t score a goal in a 1-0 loss to Cambridge-Isanti. Big Lake had a chance on a penalty shot, then hit the crossbar on another shot.

Big Lake was blanked again in their next game, 3-0 by St. Croix Prep, but came back with a 4-2 win over North Branch Monday. Landon Priest, Tamren Acosta, Ryler Peterson and Kofi Jyamerah each scored for the Hornets.
