Big Lake boys beat Cambridge

The Hornets scored an 89-82 win over Mississippi 8 Conference rival Cambridge-Isanti Monday night. That win gives Big Lake nine conference wins for the season which secures them a third-place finish.

Trevor Maruska had his second 30-point game in as many weeks to propel the team to victory. He finished with 33 while Owen Layton added 18, Owen Wilczek had 12, and Max Siegrist scored 11.

Last Friday the team finished up their out of conference games when they lost 83-59 against Sauk Rapids-Rice. The margin was only seven at halftime, but the Hornets couldn’t keep up in the second half.

Aidan Johnson, Maruska, and Wilczek all reached double figures in the loss totaling 15, 13, and 11 respectively.

The team has one more regular season game this Thursday against Chisago Lakes. Then they will wait to see what seed they get on Saturday. The most likely scenario would be the Hornets receiving the #3 seed and hosting a first-round playoff game next Tuesday.
