The Becker Bulldog volleyball team defeated the Chisago Lakes Wildcats last Thursday, winning three sets to two. 

Becker raced out to a 2-0 lead with two close wins in the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-22.  Chisago Lakes, however, won the next two 29-27 and 25-22 to set up the deciding fifth set which the Bulldogs won 15-7.

“As a team, we were able to work together well enough to pull out the win,” said coach Greg Lynch.

Becker’s servers were dialed in on the night, hitting 93% of their attempts compared to 89% for the Wildcats.  Becker also led with seven ace serves to the Wildcats’ five.  Chisago Lakes had a slight advantage in the assist department, notching 52 to the Bulldogs’ 50.

Kady Lindbom led the hitting attack with 23 kills, while Evelyn Kreft added 12 and Jenna Olson had seven.

Season Pause

The Bulldogs were able to savor the win for one night and on Friday the team learned that their season will be on hold for the next week and a half due to COVID protocols.

According to a release sent to parents at the end of last week, the school recently learned of a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.  This individual rode the bus with team members last Tuesday for their match in Cambridge.  Per MDH guidelines, all bus trips in excess of 30 minutes are subject to quarantine procedures and therefore the protocol was put in place immediately upon learning of the positive test and will last until Wed., Nov. 11. 

During the quarantine period, students may not attend in-person before school, during school or after school activities.  In addition, the students will be set up as distance learners and the high school volleyball team will cease activities until Nov. 11.

The Patriot will resume coverage of the volleyball team when its season restarts.
