Becker track records fall at Delano

Last Thursday’s track meet at Delano was a record setting performance for the Becker Bulldogs, as the boys team notched four new school records and the girls added seven new entries to the school honor roll.

The boys team won the meet with 159 points, while the girls also captured the win with 137 team points.

“It was a perfect night for a track and field meet and we took advantage of the good weather,” boys coach Paul Schmidt said.  “Individual performances were at a high level among all the athletes as many personal records were achieved.”

Leading the way was Carter Reckelberg, who was part of three of the school records that fell.  He started it off by winning the long jump with a new school record of 22’ 2” - surpassing the 11 year old record of 21’ 11” set by Andy Reid.   Later, Carter would break Reid’s other record in the Triple Jump by leaping his way to a 44’ 2.5” distance.

“This was a four foot increase in Carter’s personal best,” Schmidt said.

To add to this phenomenal day, he then ran the first leg of the 4x100 relay in which Julias Hendricks, Mitchell Soltau, and Logan Eisele ran their way to erase the 4x100 school record which had been there since 1987. Their winning time was 43.99.

“Everything has really started clicking for this relay team,” Schmidt said.  “I have had a lot of fast kids over the years but never four at one time that have this kind of 100 meter speed”

Rounding out the school record performers was Owen Angell, who had been tied for the school record in the pole vault for the last year at 14’. Angela cleared 14’ 6” to claim the top spot in school history.

Besides the broken records, Becker racked up many other stellar performances.  Tyson Ricker continues to dominate the distance field as he won the 1600 (4:26.31) and the 800 (2:01.42).

Logan Eisele used borrowed cleats after his were stolen a week earlier and it didn’t deter the senior, as he ran personal bests in the 100 (11.43) which was 3rd place and 200 (22.69) which was good for second.

Angell added second place finishes in both the 110 hurdles (15.66) and the 300 hurdles (42.25).

In the 3200, all three of the runners ran personal bests with Parker Spindler leading the was with a second place finish (10:25).

The 4x800 relay team of Tanner Felton, Evan Hubbard, Caleb Reckelberg, and Alex Kinney had a PR time of 8:54.88, while the 4x200 team and 4x400 team finished 3rd and 5th, respectivel,y to round out Becker’s scoring for the evening.

Girls

In addition to their honor roll performances, the girls team put forth 16 PR performances in Delano in winning the meet..

Becker started out the meet with a victory in the 4x800 relay, as Dani Nuest, Katelyn Brower, Brooklyn Karel and Alea Briggs ran 10:21.86.

“Our sprinters had a good day too,” Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy said.  “All three girls got PR times in both the 100 and 200.”

Kylee Morton was seventh in 100 (13.56), and third in the 200, while Adele Changamire ran a PR in the 800 to win in a time of 2:26.33. In the same race, Briggs ran a PR as well, taking third.

In the 1600, senior captain Brooklyn Karel command the race from start to finish, while Olivia Babler placed fourth (5:65.18) and senior captain Meghan Swanson fifth (6:00.83).

“Olivia Babler tackled the 3200 as well as the 1600, which can be a challenging double,” Reimer-Kealy said. Babler ran a 12:49.90 to place fifth.

Lauren Woelfel ran a PR time (17.81) in the 100 hurdles for fifth, while Raelee Lyon was sixth.

Regan Hausmann ran what Reimer-Kealy called “a gutsy race in the 300 hurdles” to place second with a good time of 50.48, while Kailey Thompson was fifth in 51.34.

Becker’s  4x100 relay team of Lyon, Morton, Leon Morris, and Salayna Allen ran to second place with their season best time of 52.17 which places this team 3rd on Becker’s honor roll.

The 4x200 team of Hausmann, Dani Nuest, Abby Atwood and Kailey Thompson had a couple of hiccups on their hand offs but still managed to take 2nd.

“To finish the running events we had an exciting race, our team was tied for first place overall at this point and our girls were fired up,” Reimer-Kealy said. “The team was Abby Atwood, Dani Nuest, Katelyn Brower and Alea Briggs.  Each girl ran really well and stuck with the team from Mound West-Tonka until the end when they had the winner of the open 400 running an excellent anchor leg.  I was really pleased with their efforts.”

Becker’s field events had several placers that helped the score, as Bella Kuschel took fourth in the high jump with a PR of 4’10, putting her on the honor roll.

Olivia Maunu placed in both the shot put (seventh -28’9) and the discus (sixth- 82’9). Other PR’s came from Atwood (long jump), Woelfel (triple jump) and Josie Reckelberg (triple jump).

Woelfel also finished out the meet as the winner of the pole vault.

“With all other events finished we were behind in team points by 2, Reimer-Kealy said.  “Lauren’s vault of 10’6  put our team over the top for an exciting finish and win!”
