Becker tennis machine keeps rolling

It seems as if the neither the lineup nor the opponent matters to the Becker girls tennis team as they keep piling up the victories.

With a pair of recent wins, they remain undefeated at 8-0 on this season and received a glimmer of hope this week when the MSHSL announced there would be section play for tennis.

North Branch

Last Thursday, the team totally dominated North Branch with a 7-0 victory.

“Everyone played awesome in this match,” said coach Nate Bucher.

In the singles events, Maddie Moe moved up to play the #1 match and was dominant in victory, as was the rest of the lineup in #2 Ayla Brown, #3 Dani Nuest and #4 Janelle Gudim.

It was the same story in the doubles matches as the duos made quick work of their opponents.

Bluejackets

Tuesday night, the Bulldogs tweaked the lineup and still came away with a 5-2 over Cambridge-Isanti.

Courtney Nuest won her match at #1 singles and Dani Nuest moved all the way up to #2 singles and continued her recent hot streak.

“Dani played great and was very focused in hitting some really good passing shots,” said Bucher.

Janelle Gudim played at #3 and Julia Peterson played at #4. Despite both girls losing close matches, Bucher was happy with how they battled.

The coach also lauded #3 doubles teammates Hannah Uecker and Talia Loken for their fine play.

“They really executed all of their shots in their match,” said Bucher.

Section Play

Bucher was happy to hear that the MSHSL had decided there will be sectional play for girls tennis this year.  The state tournament is still TBA and undecided, but at least for now the team knows it can have a goal of being section champions.

“Seeding will be interesting because we haven’t played all of those section teams,” said Bucher.

Becker has defeated some very good teams in Foley and Big Lake so one would think the Bulldogs have a good chance at a high seed.  While seeding determinations were not announced, the MSHSL did solidify that the high seed will host outdoor matches in the sectional rounds.
