Becker tennis downs Chisago Lakes 4-3

It took an incredible come from behind victory in the #2 doubles match from Jazlyn Toedter and Jackie Yoerg, but the Becker girls tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory Tuesday evening over Chisago Lakes.  The big win for the Bulldogs avenged their only regular season Mississippi 8 Conference loss from a year ago and kept their record unbeaten in 2020.

All the other matches had finished so the full attention of the players and fans were on the Yoerg/Toedter duo as they headed to the third set of their match and fell behind 4-5.  But they were able even the score and eventually pulled ahead 6-5 before playing a nail biter in the final game.

“Jazlyn made a nice deep shot which Chisago was able to return on a high lob,” said coach Nate Bucher.  “Jackie was able to secure the win with an overhead shot that she put down perfectly.”

Bucher credited the entire team with a well played match despite the best competition they had faced all year.

“Everybody on the team contributed to the win for us tonight,” said Bucher.  “Jackie and Jazlyn really focused and did what they had to do in their match to seal it for us.”

Maddie Moe won her match for the Bulldogs at #2 singles by playing a tough second set and coming away with a 7-5 win to give Becker some momentum.  Ayla Brown also played well en route to a win at #3 singles.

In the doubles action, the #1 team of Julia Bengtson and Alayna Lindquist made quick work of their opponents for another of Becker’s wins on the afternoon.

Bucher reported after the match that the post season plans are still not clear, yet his team continues to improve each match and focus on what they can control.  He is hopeful that the post season plans are announced soon.

Becker was scheduled to travel to North Branch on Thursday evening.  Look for results in next week’s Patriot.
