Becker Swimmers Take 3rd at True Team

It was a record high finish for the Becker Swimming and Diving team at last week’s True Team meet, as they finished in third place for their best finish in team history.

“We held second place for most of the meet but couldn’t keep it through the last relay,” Coach Tina Tamm said.

“We had a great meet with many personal bests, more section qualifiers and a lot of trips to the podium for the girls.”

For the eight individual swimming events, Becker had 21 personal best times out of 32 swims.

Izza Mork was the 100 breaststroke champion, while Laila Cook took sixth in that event.

Mork also was second in the 200 Individual Medley (Cook was sixth), and the two teamed up with Josie Reckelberg and Grace Mork to place third in the 200 Freestyle relay.  The same foursome took third in the 200 Medley Relay.

Grace Mork was the second place finisher in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle events, while Reckelberg was seventh in the 50 Freestyle and fifth in the 100 Butterfly.  Myka Maksimenko added an eighth place in the 100 Butterfly.

“Our divers had a great meet with all four of them making it to the podium for the first event of the day,” Tamm said.

Karli Kirk placed second, Maggie Graning placed third, Sofia Bonsante placed sixth and Lillian Bonsante placed seventh.

“These four will compete at the Section Meet in November for a spot at the State meet,” Tamm added.

Tamm noted her team’s depth as a key factor in the highest true team finish in team history.

“True Team is a meet where every athlete scores points,” said the coach.  “The fact that we held second place for a majority of the day shows the depth that we have on the team.”
