Clearwater Burger King closed due to fire

Residents in the Clearwater area will have to go without their Whoppers for a while, as a car fire in the Burger King drive-through lane has closed the restaurant indefinitely.

Shortly after noon last Saturday, the Clearwater Fire Dept. received a call about a car on fire in the Burger King drive-through. A witness reported hearing a loud popping noise after which flames were immediately seen in the car.

Clearwater Fire Chief Mike Keller said firefighters were on the scene for just over two hours, as the fire spread to the Burger King building. The Clear Lake Fire Dept. was also called to assist.

Thick black smoke could be seen from I-94 during the fire. There were no injuries and it’s currently unknown how the vehicle fire started.
