The Becker swimming and diving team has been busy preparing for the Section meet, which this year will be held in Becker. Head Coach Tina Tamm hopes that the home pool advantage will propel her athletes to top finishes and a place in the state swimming meet.
“We are hosting it this year so some would say we have home field advantage,” Tamm says. “I am hoping that is true because we have a great chance at some state qualifications.”
The Section meet will start Nov. 11 with the swimming preliminaries at 5 p.m., while Friday’s (Nov. 12) diving prelims and semifinals will start at 4:45 p.m.
Saturday will be the finals, starting at Noon.
“The girls have finished the hardest week of the season and are now headed into their taper week,” Tamm says. “We have just over a week before the Section meet and they have some hard swims to do but if they come in with a ‘win it all’ attitude - we could have some state entrants.”
The Bulldogs will be taking on some excellent competition in their quest for the state tournament, as teams from Big Lake, Foley, Milaca, Monticello, Princeton, Ogilvie/Mora, Sauk Rapids/Rice, St. Cloud Cathedral/St. John’s Prep and St. Cloud Tech will all be competing.
But Tamm thinks her team’s combination of skill, work ethic and some “home cooking” might just be the magical recipe.
“It’s going to be an exciting three days in the pool,” Tamm says. “We are back to one site for the meet, after last years COVID restrictions and it’s going to be a packed house with a lot of good races.”
