The Becker girls golf team continues to pile up the Mississippi 8 wins, as they sit atop the standings.
A week ago Monday, it was a rout for the girls in a big conference win.
“We shot a 344, which happens to be the lowest score since I took over has head coach,” Coach Anna Babler said. “It was an exciting day for golf.”
Monticello came in second with a round of 365, meaning Becker was 21 strokes ahead of their closest competition.
For the Bulldogs, Layla Mathews tied for first place shooting a 78, while Alexa Voller placed third with a round of 84. Placing fifth overall was Avery Johnson with an 88 and Nora Pilarski came in eighth overall with a 94.
Monday, the team was in Princeton and eked out another victory, this one by one stroke.
Mathews and Voller tied for third in the meet, firing rounds of 86, while Pilarski and Emilia Strong tied for 13th, hitting 99 strokes.
“We were missing senior Avery Johnson and still snuck a win in by one stroke on the last hole,” Babler said.
Becker fired a team score of 370, with the Magic close behind at 371.
Last week, Becker traveled to the St. Cloud Country Club for a Thursday meet that is free, as it is sponsored by the club and Coborns. It was a chance to play a round of golf for the girls, who then received a free picnic lunch.
Brainerd won the meet with a round of 354, while Becker stayed consistent, finishing seventh with a scsore of 371.
Mathews finished 12th with a round of 88, while Voller was 14th, firing a 90.
Friday, the team traveled to Sauk Centre for the section preview.
“We played at Greystone which is a new course for us,” Babler said. “The winds were crazy and it definitely was a challenge for all girls across the course. We will be back in a couple of weeks for sections.”
The Bulldogs shot a 381, good enough for sixth place and were paced by Voller’s eighth place finish (89 strokes) and Mathews finished in 10th (91).
