Becker boys XC battle the heat

The Becker boys cross country traveled to Little Falls on Thurs., Sept 12, for the 59th Annual Lucky Lindy/Myron Ahle Invitational. At the Invitational, the Bulldogs took on 25 teams and placed fourth overall.

The name of the meet comes from two known folks from Little Falls.

Throughout the day, the Bulldogs made sure to stay hydrated due to the high temps. Even though the heat could have been devastating for the runners, there was enough tree coverage and breeze from the river to keep them cool through the race. Families made sure to cheer on the runners as they flew by on the course. This course also allows spectators to view the race from multiple locations, so fans can encourage and celebrate runners’ success.

JV Bulldogs started off the meet with multiple runners seeing improvement in their times. Weston Denne managed to run his season best time that was about a minute faster than the previous year.

Aiden Jacobs was another runner that decreased his time significantly by 3:12. Carson Schuster was able to accomplish his first race of the season and many were excited to see him back.

Varsity was the next group of athletes to race. They did exceptionally well, with most of them coming close to beating their best times. Parker Spindler, Alex Swanson, and Evan Hubbard were top runners of the night. Brandt Hemmelgarn, Holden Hubbard, and Alex Schermer were not far behind the top runners. Jonathan Drury rounded out the Varsity points with a score of 165.

The Bulldog boys were able to move up the AA ranks into the eighth spot.

The middle school runners were down to a couple of boys after illnesses prevented the rest from competing. Both boys, Henry Peckskamp and Oliver Carlson, accomplished personal bests as eighth graders.

“The conference meet for the Bulldogs is approaching in less than five weeks,” said Head Coach Dustin Weege.

The boys however are determined to accomplish new goals and truly put their best foot forward.
