Becker boys CC finishes second

To start the season, the Becker boys cross country team traveled to Fairway Shores for the Princeton Invitational. 

The Bulldogs fought through hot, muggy conditions and still managed to take second place behind the Class A state champs. 

The top runner of the meet was Junior Alex Swanson, after he finished second overall in the 5km distance with a time of 17:21. Not too far behind was Junior Parker Spindler with a sixth place finish and a time of 17:42. Both these boys have been putting in the work over the summer in order to achieve their goals this season. 

After Swanson and Spindler came brothers Evan and Holden Hubbard with  respectable 12th and 18th place finishes. The last Bulldogs to finish in the top 25 of the meet was Brandt Hemmelgarn, Alex Schermer. Jonathan Drury, Mason Tschida, and Weston Denne. 

Following the varsity race was the Middle School 2km race. Returning members, Henry Peckskamp and Owen Young, welcomed newcomers Oliver Carlson, Noah Anderson, and Brody Zinken. The team placed fourth in the meet with some team members achieving personal records. 

The JV race finished off the meet with a 3km distance. Becker JV fought hard during the meet and finished in second place.Two top 10 finishers included Bulldog runners Hunter Heitkamp and Cooper Pany. 

“The guys have been working hard in workouts and in meets,” said Coach Dustin Weege. “They have been challenging themselves as they are hungry to achieve some big things this season.” 

At the moment, the Bulldogs are ranked sixth in the weekly cross country coaches association rankings.

The next meet will be held in Rockford where the boys will compete in Rockford’s Rocket Run for the 51st annual event.
