The Becker boys and girls cross country teams both took fourth places at separate meets.
Becker Boys
The Becker boys cross country competed in the 51st annual Rocket Run in Corcoran, MN last Thursday with a majority of the boys capturing either season best times or personal records.
Twelve teams competed in this meet, but that did not stop the varsity Bulldogs from scoring 105 points and placing fourth overall.
Unlike at last week’s Princeton meet, the weather was in much better spirits. All of the varsity Bulldogs managed to receive season best times, while two PR’s went out to 39th place finisher, Holden Hubbard (18:19) and 41st place finisher, Alex Schermer (18:24).
At the front of the pack was third place finisher Parker Spindler and fourth place finisher Alex Swanson. Evan Hubbard and Brandt Hemmelgarn were the next varsity runners to finish the race. Teammates Jonathan Drury, Mason Tschida, and Weston Denne stuck close together during the Rocket Run.
“We had a lot of good racing and were able to see a number of familiar faces on the beautiful day,” said Coach Dustin Weege.
The Becker middle school boys also performed well during the meet and placed seventh overall. Boys JV was the last team to compete in the Rocket Run. Many of the boys earned either season best times or personal records. The boys from both varsity and middle school cheered on their remaining teammates as the meet drew to an end.
On Becker’s Friday night Homecoming, the Bulldog’s will participate in the annual “Running of the Football” to the homecoming game.
Becker Girls
On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Becker girls cross country team traveled to Rockford, hoping to run some of their best times.
The girls did not disappoint after most of the girls ran season best times.
Girls varsity was led by junior Katelyn Brower, who came in 13th while the team as a whole placed fourth out of 10 teams.
The middle school girls took first place and were led by seventh grader Alyse Denne, who during the meet also came in first. The girls are off to a great start and will continue to pick up momentum as the season progresses.
