Becker Middle School presented its fifth annual Career Day last Friday, with students having the opportunity to learn about professions that await them once they finish their educational studies.
Thirty presenters, including several Becker alumni, provided information about their respective careers, as well as a sneak peek into the daily activities of their chosen profession.
“We continue to be grateful for the partnerships with our presenters, as our students are able to gain valuable insight into possible career choices as a result of this tradition,” BMS Principal Chantel Boyer said. “We tell our students to ‘dream big’ and this program is a cornerstone of that message.”
The speakers who presented cover a wide array of careers, from the construction trades and engineering, to law enforcement and the medical field. All in all, the goal is to show a variety of professions and ones with differing requirements of education past high school. Apprenticeships and other work-based learning are highlighted, as are the military, certificate programs, two-year degrees and four-year degrees.
“We do our best to show students that there are many options available to them, from entering the workforce to pursuing post-secondary education,” Assistant Principal Kevin Beehler said. “Although the students are still in middle school, the research is clear that we want them to start considering what their future could look like.”
