The Bulldog boys baseball team split four games this past week that included a doubleheader sweep of Milaca Thursday.
Those games’ results will appear in next week’s Citizen-Tribune.
Thunder 1, Bulldogs 0
Missed opportunities proved to be the difference in Becker’s game against Zimmerman Monday night.
The Bulldogs had the lead-off batter reach base in four of the seven innings, but were unable to get any across the plate.
“The bats were quiet and Zimmerman did a good job defensively to stifle our aggressive base running,” said Head Coach Tyler Niedfeldt.
The Bulldogs finished with five hits scattered across five different innings. Andrew Berglund led the way, going 2-for-2 with a stolen base.
Matt Moe had another strong outing on the mound, going the distance to take the loss. Moe finished with three strikeouts and zero walks.
“We weren't able to get the big hit to score any runs,” said Niedfeldt. “We left five runners on base and had an additional three players thrown out on the base paths. I thought we played very solid defense. We would like to have that one back.”
Magic 10, Bulldogs 2
The Bulldogs struggled at the plate Tuesday against a strong Monticello team, mustering just three hits paired with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
The Bulldogs also struggled in the field, committing three costly errors.
Weston Schug took the loss. Logan Boyer came into the game and pitched well in his first game pitching this season.
Logan Sticha capitalized on an opportunity in the sixth inning and tallied his first varsity hit.
“We can't make little mistakes and have them turn into big mistakes,” said Niedfeldt. “We didn't play very smart today and the better teams are going to take advantage of that.”
Becker 7, Milaca 4
In game one of a scheduled doubleheader at home, the Bulldogs beat the Wolves by three runs.
Becker 6, Milaca 1
In game two, Becker scored six runs and the pitching and defense held the Wolves to just one run.
