Baseball Coaches Honor Players At Banquet

The Becker Bulldog boys high school baseball team held their end-of-the-season awards banquet Thursday night.

Three players made all - conference including Clayton Gallus,  Cody Gruenhagen and Andrew Stanger.  Stanger and Gruenhagen are repeat all conference players.
Honorable mention went to Tyler Thorson and Casey Vesledahl.  MVP went to Gruenhagen.  Most dedicated went to John Mann and most improved to Connor Rolf.  All-conference academic went to Thorson and Gallus.

“The year is over and it was a good year for the Bulldogs baseball team,” said Head Coach Chuck Stanger of his team that went 13-11.

Stanger noted this year’s team went farther then any team had gone since the team that went to the state tournament in 1994.

“As a coach, you ask young men to play a role to make the program better,” he said. “And this year we had young men step up and play those roles.  Every kid wants to be a starter, but in baseball you can only start nine  and sub once. Again, it makes the game of baseball different then any other sport.”

The Bulldogs tied Alexandria for third place in section play and had three players make the all-section team. Stanger, Gruenhagen and Gallus were the honorees.

“As head coach, I would want the people of Becker and the parents to know how privilege I am to coach a team of so many fine young student athletes,” Coach Stanger said. “They never knew when to quit and I'm looking forward to next year.”

The team will lose just one senior, Eric Blomgren, to graduation.
