Bandits Get Mugged In Three Losses

The Becker Bandits baseball team went 0-3 this week, losing in routs to Foley and Sartell and losing a two-run heartbreaker to the Muskies.
 
Foley 11, Becker 1
The Bandits took on Foley last Saturday and lost by 10 runs.
 
Cole Hanson went the distance for Becker, pitching nine innings, giving up 11 runs on 13 hits, striking out five and walking two while taking the loss.
 
Becker’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth when Connor Rolf led off with a walk, followed by a fielder’s choice by Matt Conzemius. Conzemius advanced to second on a wild pitch and Matt Krenz hit a single to drive in Conzemius from second base.
 
Krenz finished the game going 2-for-4 with the lone RBI. Hayden Fassler was also 2-for-4 and Matt Yoerg was 1-for-3.
 
Sartell 14, Becker 4
Sunday, the Bandits traveled to Sartell to take on the Muskies in a doubleheader. The first game was a blowout in which Sartell registered 14 runs on 13 hits while the Bandits could only muster four runs on three hits.
 
Cody Gruenhagen started the game on the mound for Becker and went the distance in the shortened game (4-2/3 innings, run rule) giving up 14 runs on 13 hits, while striking out one and taking the loss.
 
Two of Becker’s runs came in the top of the third when Yoerg and Fassler each walked to lead off the inning. Gruenhagen hit a double to right, scoring both base runners.
 
In the next inning, Kevin Krenz and Jon Crowley walked to lead off the inning and Yoerg advanced them into scoring position with a sacrifice. Rolf followed with a bloop single to right to score Krenz and Crowley.
 
Gruenhagen was 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI and two walks. Rolf was 1-for-2 with two RBI's and a sacrifice. Fassler was 1-for-2 and Yoerg was 0-for-1 with two walks.
 
Sartell 3, Becker 1
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Bandits hung in but couldn’t generate enough offense to pull out the win.
 
The Bandits jumped out to the lead in the first when Yoerg reached first base on a walk and Rolf singled him to second. Gruenhagen hit a double to left center to score Yoerg.
 
Crowley was the pitcher of record,  going all seven innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out one.
 
 Yoerg was 1-for-2 with a walk, Rolf and Conzemius were each 1-for-3 and Gruenhagen was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
 
Up Next
The Bandits’ final league game is Sunday in Clear Lake at Goenner Park. The playoffs begin July  19.
