Bandits down Lakers with playoffs looming

The Becker Bandits amateur baseball team went 1-2 over the past week, picking up a win over the Clear Lake Lakers, as the team has several games left before the playoffs will commence.

Last Sunday, the Bandits knocked off rival Clear Lake by a score of 16-8.

Manager Cole Hanson’s team picked up 19 hits in the afternoon en route to the convincing win.

Mitch Louden had a great performance, going 5-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI, while teammate Wyatt Flint was 3-for-3 with a home run (a two run blast in the seventh) and six RBI.

Weston Schug and Dalton Fouquette each picked up three hits for the Bandits, who improved to 4-6 in the Sauk Valley East Division with the win.

Schug took the start on the mound and pitched effectively, going 5.1 innings and striking out seven while scattering eight hits. Cam Fischer picked up the win in relief, as he went 3.2 innings and struck out four while yielding just three hits.

In earlier action last week, Becker fell in a pair of shutouts, losing 11-0 to the Luxemberg Brewers and 10-0 to the Clearwater Rivercats.

In the loss to the Brewers, Matt Krenz led the team at the plate despite Becker picking up just four hits. Fischer took the loss on the mound, going five innings, while Andrew Kolbinger came on in relief and scattered four hits over two innings.

In the loss to Clearwater, Kolbinger took the loss in his 1.2 innings of work while Matt Moe came on in relief and went five innings, striking out seven batters.

Flint led the team at the plate with his 2-for-3 performance, including a double.
