Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Becker for William “Bill” F. Johnson, 94 of Becker, who passed away on Thursday surrounded by his loving family. Rev. Michael Kellogg will officiate and a private family burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends and relatives may visit one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday morning. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Becker.
William was born on August 7, 1925 in Toledo, OH to Alvin William and Mary Louise (Bringard) Johnson. He grew up in Detroit, MI and married Margaret Ann Soper on September 6, 1947 in Detroit. Bill served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII. In his later years, he was fortunate enough to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He has lived in the Becker area since 1998. Bill was a very successful insurance agent for many years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Becker, the Becker Lions Club, Faith in Action and the Becker American Legion Post 193. Bill was a devoted husband and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, especially being at the cabin near Garrison. He loved boating and his toys, like his motorcycles, scooters and four wheelers. Bill was a very social man, a jokester and a natural storyteller. He will always be remembered as being strong willed, well liked and always friendly.
Survivors include his children, Anne (Douglas) Mertz of Cape Cod, MA, Al (Susan) of Becker and Mary Lou of Vallejo, CA; grandchildren, Marc, Jennifer and Matthew Mertz, Sarah (John) Wreisner, Ryan (Meghan), Carleen (David) Keske, and Cole (Courtney); and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret in 2005; sons, William “Butch” Jr. and Gerald.
