Sandra Lee Johnson

Sandra Lee Johnson, age 75 of Albertville, went to be with her Lord February 2 in Monticello.

Sandy was born the daughter of William and Bernice (Beardsley) Kankelfitz July 30, 1943 in Jamestown, ND.

Sandy met Bruce Johnson while attending Youth for Christ meetings during her teenage years. The couple was united in marriage June 30, 1962 and this union was blessed with the birth of five children, twins Paula & Paulette, Paul, Rick and Timothy. Bruce and Sandy made a great team and their children great players on that team.

Sandy began serving people at a very young age. At the age of nine she began volunteering at the Marie Sandvik Center and this continued all of her life. She taught bible studies for the Ladies Day Out at the First Covenant Church in Minneapolis for many years. In her retirement years, Sandy and Bruce also served as mentors for the Elevate Youth Group at Becker Ev. Free Church of Becker. Her love for serving others was a lifelong passion.

There are many things that Sandy liked to do for enjoyment such as bowling, gardening and taking in her children and grandchildren’s events. Sandy was a very competitive person when it came to bowling and playing games with her family, she was a sore loser. Her family will always remember her “rubber” mac and cheese and also the fact that her desserts were always fantastic. The time that she was able to spend with loved ones created memories that will be treasured forever.

The legacy that she leaves is one of serving other’s and one of prayer. The unconditional love she received as a follower of Jesus Christ is the love that she showered on anyone. Her prayer would be that her family continue that legacy she and Bruce have started and that they pass this on to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by husband of 56 years, Bruce; children, Paula (Jim) Leahy-Schmidt, Paulette (Peter) Lee, Paul (Kim) Johnson and Rick Johnson; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sister Donna Charpentar; also many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Sandy was Thurs., Feb. 7 at The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael. Memorial service was Friday, Feb. 8 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Becker Baptist Church of Becker. Private family interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
