Robert(Bob)North was born on January 10, 1937 to Ceylon North and Ruth North-Krieg in Fargo, ND. He grew up in a single parent home with his older brother Larry and his mother. Bob attended Fargo High School and North Dakota State-School of Pharmacy. In his school years he was active in Hockey, Bowling, Baseball, Gulf, A Cappella Choir and Full Concert Choirs. In High School he was in Scholastic Athletic Association and ROTC in College. Bob had a career life in Pharmaceutical Sales.
Bob married Karen Sand and started a family. Over the years they moved to Bloomington, MN and they had 4 children; David, Todd, Jay and Amy.
With 4 children at home, Bob was busy being dad and was the parent coach, teaching all the kids how to play hockey, baseball and bowl. He was a coach for his son’s squirt and peewee hockey team’s from 1972 – 1975; Softball coach for Amy and the boys various teams over the years. From 1974 -1984, Bob was director of Southtown Bowl. In that he developed the largest Jr. Bowling league in the metro area and one of the 1st Sr.’s program. He interviewed and hired coaches, and was referee, manager, medic, instructor and publicity chairman.
After a single period, Bob met Alice Samuelson in 1980 at the Colonial Church in Edina and married Christmas the same year. During the next few years they built their Briggs Lake home, began years of traveling and spending more time with family.
Bob enjoyed gulf, dancing, music, interacting with family and friends, his church and traveling. Trips included around the world (7 continents), French Polynesia, Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, several mission/volunteer trips, volunteering for Wycliffe Bible Translators and Grandchildren trips. Additionally they were Winter Texan’s for ten years.
Bob loved family, fun and was happy to attend any gathering. He and Alice were very active at Becker Baptist Church activities. Bob had many wonderful friends at Becker Baptist Church and in Pharr Texas (the winter home). He seemed to always be smiling or laughing about something.
We are grateful for his well lived life. He has many friends and visitors in his final journey. Survived by wife, Alice North of 37 years; his brother Larry (Maxine) North of Coon Rapids; six children: Dave (Margo) North, Todd (Donna) North of TX, Jay(Chakira) North of FL, and Amy (Mike) Peterson of Mpls., Rick (Linda) Samuelson of Burnsville and Tammy (Mike) Johnston of Dayton. 11 Grandchildren; 1 great grandchild, many nieces, nephews, other relatives.
Services were held November 17 at Becker Baptist Church and private internment at Glen Wood Cemetery in Crystal.
Memorials preferred: Wycliffe Bible Translators or Becker Baptist Church.
