Clarence Dean Ek

Clarence D. Ek, age 81, of Kimball, died September 30 in the comfort of his family and home.
A Celebration of Clarence's Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. with a Remembrance Service at 2:30 p.m. Sun., Oct. 7 at Generations Ballroom in Kimball. A private graveside service will take place at Maine Prairie Cemetery.
Clarence Dean Ek was born February 26, 1937 in Minneapolis to Eric and Christina (Cook) Ek. He grew up in Minneapolis and enjoyed multiple school sports at Marshall High School. Clarence enlisted in the Army in 1955, served two years in Italy, and returned home in 1957. At the age of 21, he met his future wife, Gail Maki; they were united in marriage on April 30, 1960 in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis until relocating to Kimball in 1975. Clarence worked for Northern States Power, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Moose Club in Minneapolis and the Lion's Club in Kimball. Clarence enjoyed many travels, visiting with family and friends, playing cards, and watching his grandchildren grow. He was a big teddy bear with a hard shell.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 58 years Gail; children Dean Ek of Blackduck, Kris (Arnie) Gruenes of Richmond and Debbie (John) Allar of Clearwater; 10 grandchildren Brian (Kristen), Samantha, Dustin, Zachary, Hannah, Arnie Jr., Ashley, Andy, Meaghan and Payton; and 5 great grandchildren Nathan, William, Lillian, Noah and Ethan. He is preceded in death by daughter Jean Anne; parents; and brothers Wayne and Leon.

Laura E. Goenner
July 9, 1914 - September 28, 2018
Mass of Christian Burial was Thurs., Oct. 4 at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake for Laura E. Goenner, age 104, of Clear Lake who passed away at Landings of Sauk Rapids Fri., Sept. 28. Rev. Virgil Helmin officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery. Visitation was Wed., Oct. 3 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and prior to the services at the church Thursday.
Laura was born on July 9, 1914 to Joseph and Magdalena (Stibinger) Jurek in Minden Township. She attended District 5 County School and Tech High School. She married Gilbert "Gib" Goenner on June 8, 1936 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Duelm. They were married for 62 years. She was a member of St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake and was a member of the Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella #558 of St. Cloud. She worked as the Township Treasurer for many years and as the restaurant manager at Bob's Bar in Clear Lake. Laura was a homemaker who farmed with her husband in Clear Lake until they retired in 1974. She enjoyed volunteering, gardening, canning, baking, ice fishing with Gib and sledding with her grandchildren and great grandchildren until she was 86 years old. Laura was an independent, strong willed woman who lived in her own home until she was 102 years old. Macular Degeneration eventually took away her eye sight but she never lost her mind, quick wit, or hearing; she loved listening to old time music and dancing a polka with Gib, her partner during the best years of her life.
Laura is survived by her son, Bruce (Judith) of St. Cloud; daughter-in-law, Sharon Goenner; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and her dog, Sammy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert "Gib"; son, Dale; and great granddaughter, Brynn. She survived all of her siblings: brothers, Clarence, Walter, and Roy Jurek; sisters: Stella Studer and Marie Brambrimk.Memorials are preferred to State Services for the Blind and TriCounty Humane Society.

Daniel Christopher Maitland

Daniel Christopher Maitland passed away peacefully Thursday, September 27 at 20:05 surrounded and is survived by his parents, Reed and Pearl Maitland; sister, Samantha; brother, Dylan; and many family and friends. Celebration of Life was held at New Life Church, Princeton, Tuesday, October 2. Dan was born in Chicago, IL. He attended and graduated from Maitland Home School. Dan attended St. Cloud Technical College for computer programing. He worked at Pamida as janitor, was a Youth Leader at church, volunteered for Special Olympics, and advocated for blood drives and the Kidney Foundation.
Matthew A. “Matt” Delong
January 29, 1983 - October 2, 2018
Matthew A. "Matt" DeLong, age 35, of Sartell, died Oct. 2 in St. Cloud. A Memorial Service Celebrating Matt's life will be at 7 p.m. Mon., Oct. 8 at The Waters Church, 1227 Pine Cone Rd. N., Sartell. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Waters Church. There will be a private family urn placement in Assumption Cemetery. Arrangements with Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Matthew Alan DeLong was born on January 29, 1983 in St. Cloud to Alan and Beverly (Poepping) DeLong. He graduated from Sauk Rapids High School in 2001. Matt worked as a manager at Northland Choice for many years and most recently he was operations manager at Barrett Ag. Matt will be remembered as a kind, caring, and loving person who always worried about others. He was an avid pool player and golfer, and also enjoyed music, particularly guitar and drums.
Matt's greatest love was his family, especially his 4 children.
Matt is survived by his children, Taylor DeLong, of St. Cloud, Braden DeLong, Sophia DeLong, and Sydnie DeLong all of Sartell; his parents, Bev DeLong, of Sartell and Al (Mary) DeLong of Grey Eagle; sister, Megan (Jorgen Odden) DeLong of Sartell; his grandmother, Orpha DeLong of Sartell, niece, nephews and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry and Rita Poepping and Russell DeLong; uncle, Gary Poepping; and aunts, Sherry Harris and Christine Johnson.
