Nadine E. Kolbinger nee Knutson, 87, passed away peacefully on November 18 at Quiet Oaks Hospice. A kind and caring woman, she leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith in God, and living her life without regret.
Nadine lived her entire life in Becker, from her early days on the Knutson family farm until her final 29 years on the shores of Clitty Lake where she established “Grandma’s Place” - a 2.5 acre oasis of nature where she could be seen ripping around on her John Deere Gator and watching an abundance of wildlife. She loved feeding the birds and seeing many of God’s creatures, from numerous deer to the occasional bear, who visited her home (except the squirrels - she was not a fan). She also established several glorious gardens with an impressive array of colorful flowers, from the early spring crocuses to the late fall mums. She loved to plant trees, and had one of nearly every variety including her own orchard of apples, plums and apricots.
Her work career included shattering the glass ceiling at Federal Cartridge, where she rose through the ranks before retiring as the Sales Forecasting Manager. Later in life, she worked her “junk job” selling pull-tabs for several organizations, including the Clearwater American Legion, where she was also a long-time volunteer.
Her family will remember Nadine for her sense of humor, stellar work ethic, amazing cooking (including epic weiner roasts), and kindness towards others.
“Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.”
Survivors include her children: Cheri [Steve] Faber, Karen Kirchner, Barb Knutson, Jackie Kolbinger and Mark II [Kelly] Kolbinger; Grandchildren: Stephanie, Stacie [Al], Scott [Heather], Chantel, Cassie [Tim], Crissie, Kaitlin and Kiara [Charles]; Great-grandchildren: Courtney, Cody, Cheyenne, Violet, Bradley, and Eliza; Siblings: Phyllis, Donny [Judy], Keith, and Tom; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents Philip and Margaret, sisters Lillie and Karen, granddaughter Amy and former husband Mark Sr.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday, November 25th at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel in Monticello, followed by a Celebration of Life officiated by Pastor Dr. Tom Sterneman at 11 a.m.
From there, Nadine will make her final journey to the Becker Cemetery for a graveside service, followed by a luncheon at the Becker American Legion. Friends, family and the public are invited to join us in celebrating this amazing woman’s life and are encouraged to wear bright colors as a nod to Nadine’s love of nature.
Memorials are preferred to Quiet Oaks Hospice.
