Mavis J. Kalmoe, age 90, of Zumbrota died peacefully on Sun., Nov. 12, at Zumbrota Health Services. Funeral service were Thurs., Nov. 16 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, Pastor Wayne Radke officiated. Burial was in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation was prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mavis June Zoch was born on June 7, 1927 near Hanley Falls in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN, to Ernest and Louise (Schaffran) Zoch. She grew up on the farm and graduated as Valedictorian from Hanley Falls High School, Class of 1945. Mavis worked for several years in Social Services in Granite Falls, MN. On September 17, 1948 she married Wilfred Kalmoe. Together they had two children, Ronald and Nancy. In 1959 they moved to Crystal, MN and after Wilfred retired in 1984, they moved to Pine City where they had a home on Pokegama Lake. They resided there until 1995 when they moved to Becker. In 2015, Wilfred and Mavis moved to Zumbrota, where they were adopted with open arms into the community and especially the Zumbrota Health Services and the VFW family. The family of Mavis wishes to especially thank these folks for all their thoughts, support and kind deeds over the past two years. Everyone has been most gracious.
Mavis enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and crafts. She donated many hours of time crocheting hats and mittens for charity.
Mavis is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Scott) Stearns of Zumbrota; her son, Ronald (Tefra) Kalmoe of Prescott, Arizona; grandson, LaDré Wellman; granddaughter, Alyssa Kalmoe; many nieces and nephews.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred on March 16, 2017; sister, Lucille Zoch and brothers, James and Leslie Zoch.
