Charlene M. “Nanny” Wallace, age 62, passed away peacefully Feb. 24, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Charlene was born Oct. 6, 1951 in Winnebago, MN to Neal and Evelyn (Haugh) Wallace. She grew up in Vernon Center, MN and graduated from Garden City High School in 1969. Charlene furthered her education at Humboldt Institute.
In 1970, Charlene started her career at NW National Life, now known as ING. Charlene worked for United Health Group from 2004 until her passing. Friends at work knew her as the AOF (Ambassador of Fun) because of the pranks she loved to do. Charlene enjoyed many getaways with her friends known as the “Duluth Group”. Family remembers her most for her love of cats, sense of fun, red cars, card stamping and being a “handyman” while still maintaining her perfect hands and nails. Though Charlene never had children of her own, she loved and cared for her nieces and nephews as her own children; and many of them think of her as their second mom.
